The process to create each of these images consists of a series of many steps. It can take four weeks or up to a year of work before the scientist is ready to photograph the cells. Each color in the photos must be taken separately and mixed together to produce the image seen here. This photo is a montage from multiple iterations of the process. The cells get their color through a process of staining with fluorescent dyes.

Welcome to Stem Cell Fine Art. The images you see are microscopic photographs of neural stem cells, initially produced by scientist, Cynthia Levinthal, in the process of experimentation.

Artist Statement:
Throughout many years in the laboratory, the pressing need to express my creativity was ever-present. For years I saw beauty in the microscopic images of cells without realizing their artistic value. Finally after hearing others comment I recognized these scientific products as art and began producing them as such.
